Forward Deployed Engineer

Staffbase

Join Staffbase as a Forward Deployed Engineer, where you'll build custom solutions to extend our award-winning employee communications platform. You'll own solutions from beginning to end, partner with stakeholders, and mentor mid-level engineers. This is a unique opportunity to shape a newly formed team and make a real impact.

Responsibilities

  • Own the development of custom solutions end-to-end, from technical design through implementation, testing, and release.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define and detail use cases before development, then validate solutions and gather feedback afterward.
  • Mentor mid-level engineers and help bring structure, engineering standards, and good practices to a newly formed team.
  • A strong focus on quality, clean code, testing, and continuous learning

Requirements

  • A self-starter who works well both independently and as part of a team
  • You understand and appreciate diversity and inclusivity in the workplace
  • Fluent written and spoken English and German — both are required, as you’ll work closely with German-speaking stakeholders and customers in the region
  • Solid professional experience (typically 5+ years) as a fullstack developer, including working within engineering teams and owning solutions from concept to delivery
  • Confidence working with REST APIs and SDKs, and integrating with external systems
  • Strong frontend skills with React.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript, paired with solid backend experience (e.g. Kotlin, Java, or Node.js)
  • Comfort working directly with stakeholders — you can translate business needs into technical solutions and validate them afterward
  • Experience mentoring or guiding less-experienced developers, and a knack for bringing structure to how a team works
  • Experience with Go, MongoDB, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Prometheus or Grafana
  • A background in professional services, consulting, or building custom, customer-facing solutions
  • Enterprise integration concepts such as SSO, SAML, OIDC, or SCIM
  • A good understanding of REST and microservices architecture
