Job Description – Engineering Manager (CBG & Hydrogen Projects)

Responsibilities

  • No. of Vacancies: 1
  • To lead mechanical engineering, design optimization, equipment selection and engineering execution for Compressed Biogas (CBG/Bio-CNG) and Hydrogen generation and purification plants. Ensure robust engineering design, compliance with applicable international safety and quality standards, achievement of specified gas purity parameters and optimization of plant performance, reliability and operational efficiency.

Engineering & Mechanical Design Leadership

  • Lead mechanical engineering and design activities for CBG/Bio-CNG and Hydrogen projects, ensuring design feasibility, operational efficiency and ease of maintenance.
  • Develop piping layouts, routing, pipe supports and perform piping-related engineering calculations for gas and liquid handling systems.
  • Establish technical specifications, sizing calculations and selection criteria for critical equipment such as pumps, compressors, blowers, valves, piping, fittings, pressure vessels and heat exchangers.
  • Review and optimize mechanical designs, equipment layouts and engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Develop and standardize engineering design criteria, calculation methodologies, technical specifications and documentation templates for modular green energy projects.

Technical Evaluation & Vendor Management

  • Review customer RFQs and technical requirements and define mechanical engineering scope, battery limits and project interfaces.
  • Evaluate vendor offers, technical specifications, engineering drawings and equipment datasheets to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Review detailed engineering drawings, 2D/3D models and technical submissions from vendors and EPC partners.
  • Coordinate with Process, Electrical, Instrumentation and Civil Engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems and engineering interfaces.
  • Provide technical guidance during vendor selection, technical negotiations and procurement of critical mechanical equipment.

Project Execution, Commissioning & Operational Support

  • Provide engineering support during equipment installation, mechanical erection, alignment, inspection, testing and pre-commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate with project execution and site teams to resolve mechanical engineering issues and ensure adherence to approved design specifications.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures, piping-related issues and equipment performance challenges during commissioning and plant stabilization.
  • Analyze plant operating data and identify opportunities for debottlenecking, capacity enhancement, energy efficiency and equipment performance improvement.
  • Drive engineering modifications and optimization initiatives to improve plant reliability, maintainability and lifecycle performance.

Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure mechanical engineering designs comply with applicable international standards, statutory requirements and project-specific safety guidelines.
  • Incorporate HAZOP recommendations, hazardous area requirements and applicable gas safety protocols into engineering designs.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant ASME, API and other applicable codes and standards for pressure vessels, piping systems and mechanical equipment.
  • Promote adherence to EHS requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), during installation, commissioning and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of engineering deliverables through design reviews, technical audits and documentation control.

Requirements

  • BE/B.Tech / M.Tech – Mechanical Engineering

8–15 Years

  • Strong experience in mechanical engineering and design within the process industry, preferably in Bio-CNG, Biogas, Green Hydrogen or other gas processing projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, high-pressure gas piping, gas compression and gas-liquid separation systems.
  • Hands-on experience in mechanical equipment selection, sizing, piping design, engineering calculations and technical specification development.
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D design tools such as AutoCAD Mechanical, SolidWorks or Creo, with working knowledge of FEA/CFD and ANSYS tools.
  • Sound understanding of international engineering codes and standards, particularly ASME, API and applicable gas safety standards.
  • Experience in vendor engineering review, technical evaluation, cross-functional coordination and project execution support.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and drive engineering optimization and plant performance improvement.
  • Strong technical problem-solving, project coordination, planning and decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong ownership, analytical orientation and ability to lead engineering deliverables within defined project timelines.
