Docker has been one of the most loved brands in developer tooling, trusted by more than 20 million monthly users and over 20 billion container image pulls. From solo founders to the world's largest companies, developers rely on Docker to build, share, and run their applications across our suite of products including Docker Desktop, Docker Hub, and Docker Scout.

Docker's Platform Engineering team builds and operates the cloud-native platform behind Docker's products. Inside the company, teams across Engineering and the business rely on a growing set of internal applications, and each one is built, deployed, and run a little differently.

About Docker

We are a globally distributed, remote-first team building the tools that define how software gets built and delivered. As AI agents redefine software development, Docker is at the center of that shift, providing the sandboxed environments, verified images, and secure infrastructure that make autonomous workflows trustworthy by default.

Because representing the whale never gets old.

Docker is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building a team that reflects a broad range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We believe diverse teams build better products, make better decisions, and better serve our global community.

Responsibilities

  • to give those applications a common foundation and then build the custom tools the business needs on top of it.
  • You'll create a framework that makes it easy to build and deploy internal tools, including slack bots, web apps, workflows, etc, with authentication, hosting, observability, and alerting in place.
  • You'll use it to build internally-facing tools to support cross-org efforts: roadmapping, headcount management, business reporting, etc.
  • You'll decide when to build, when to buy, and when to integrate an existing product.
  • You'll help shape how internal systems fit together across the company.
  • This is a hands-on role. You'll own projects from scoping through rollout and adoption, working with platform leads, engineering teams, and business teams such as HR, Finance, Marketing, and Customer Support.

Internal app framework

  • Build and maintain a framework that makes it fast to create and deploy internal applications and services, with defaults for authentication, hosting, CI/CD, logging, observability, and alerting
  • Provide templates, documentation, and examples so teams can ship their own tools without starting from scratch
  • Set the standards for how internal apps are built, secured, and run, and make the standard path the easiest one
  • Leverage existing systems and sources of truth to build cross-connects where they don’t exist

Custom business tooling

  • Work across teams and organizations to understand where tools, processes, or systems are falling short, and turn those gaps into proposals that platform leads can prioritize
  • Scope and deliver apps and tooling to address identified gaps
  • Ship early versions quickly, learn from how people use them, and improve them over time
  • Own the tools you build through rollout, adoption, and ongoing support

Build, buy, or integrate

  • Evaluate whether a need is best met by building, buying, or integrating an existing product, and recommend one with the tradeoffs
  • Connect tools to the systems the company already uses, such as identity, data sources, and Slack, so they work together
  • Help shape the architecture of internal systems, so they stay consistent and maintainable as the company grows

Reliability and AI

  • Build operational basics into the framework, so every internal app gets incident management, SLO, and alerting defaults automatically
  • Use AI tooling to speed up delivery and to automate workflows where it adds value

Requirements

  • 6+ years of software engineering, including building and shipping internal tools or full-stack web applications
  • Strong full-stack skills: a backend language such as Go, Python, or TypeScript, and a modern frontend framework
  • Experience designing reusable frameworks, templates, or platforms that other engineers build on
  • Experience deploying to the cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure) with containers and CI/CD, and working knowledge of Kubernetes
  • Sound judgment on build, buy, and integrate decisions, and experience integrating third-party SaaS products and APIs
  • Experience working directly with non-engineering stakeholders to turn a need into a working tool

Experience with AI-assisted development or LLM-powered automation

  • Clear written communication and comfort working asynchronously on a remote team
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred

  • Cross-functional experience in program management
  • Experience with internal tool or developer portal platforms

Web design experience

  • Familiarity with observability and incident tooling ( incident.io, Grafana, Prometheus, or similar)
  • Experience at a developer tooling or SaaS company at scale, and familiarity with compliance and security standards

Pay

  • All full-time roles include equity. Final compensation is determined on factors including but not limited to experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
  • $160,900 – $260,700 base

Benefits

  • Docker considers visa sponsorship on a case-by-case basis based on business needs.
  • Work from your home, with offices in Seattle and Paris for connection and collaboration.
  • Flexibility that fits your life
  • We trust you to manage your schedule while delivering great work.

Time to recharge

  • Generous PTO, designated quarterly Whaleness Days, and a designated end-of-year Whaleness break.
  • Set up your workspace for comfort and success.
  • Technology stipend
  • Equivalent to

US$100 net per month

  • to help support your work.
  • Annual stipend for conferences, courses, certifications, and continued learning.

  • Share in Docker's long-term success as we continue to grow.
