Backend Developer (AWS, Typescript, Serverless Architecture, AWS Lambda)

Design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend services using TypeScript, serverless architecture, and AWS.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate user and business requirements into reliable, maintainable technical solutions.
• Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and architectural decision-making, and contribute to continuous integration and delivery processes.
• Understanding of software engineering principles including clean code, modularity, maintainability, version control and appropriate design patterns
• Experience diagnosing and resolving application defects, performance issues and production problems
• Designing solutions for reliability, scalability and cost efficiency
• API-based integrations and service-to-service communication

Requirements

• Experience using Git and modern software development workflows
• Experience with automated testing, including unit and integration testing

Strong practical experience with AWS cloud services

• Understanding of event-driven and cloud-native application architectures
• Experience designing and developing solutions using serverless architecture
• Experience working with APIs, including RESTful APIs and integration with external or internal services
• Strong commercial experience developing backend services and APIs
• Experience designing secure, scalable and resilient backend services
• Strong experience developing and deploying applications using AWS Lambda
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript
• Designing applications using a serverless architecture
• AWS and Serverless Development
• Cloud security and appropriate access-control principles
• Candidates should have a good understanding of:
• Managing application configuration, environments and deployments within AWS
• AWS Lambda and serverless application development
• Event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing
• AWS services and how they can be combined to build scalable solutions

Monitoring, logging and troubleshooting cloud-based applications

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly AWS CDK, CloudFormation or Terraform
• Experience with additional AWS services such as API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, CloudWatch and IAM
• Experience designing and developing RESTful or GraphQL APIs
• Experience with Node.js and the wider TypeScript ecosystem
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Experience with containerisation and Docker
• Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging systems
• Familiarity with security best practices for cloud-based applications

Preferred

• Experience with application monitoring, observability, logging and performance optimisation
• Experience working with large-scale or public-facing digital services
• Experience working within highly regulated or security-conscious environments
