Hardware Program Manager

Canary Technologies

Skills

Preferred

  • review every design
  • process
  • Canary, a company that sells self check-in kiosks to hotels. As the Hardware Program Manager, you will own the entire process from specification to units in the field.
  • In your first year, you will do the majority of the work yourself and then build the hardware team as the function grows.

About Canary Technologies

Bonus: has put unattended payment terminals into a product — terminal selection (e.g. Ingenico Self series, Verifone UX / P400, PAX IM30, ID TECH VP series), key injection (DUKPT / P2PE, at a certified key injection facility or via remote key injection), installation in the enclosure within PCI PTS limits (bezel, tamper protection, cables), and gateway / PSP certification

Does the work: has done substantial hands-on hardware work personally in the last six months, not only through a team

Responsibilities

  • You will write the product specification, select design consultants and the factory, and review every design.
  • You will also integrate the unattended payment terminal into the kiosk, build the fulfillment pipeline, design pre-shipment staging, and own spare parts and the return process for units that fail in the field.
  • Designed and built the hardware, not bought a finished terminal (e.g. an Elo touchscreen in a standard enclosure)

Requirements

  • Bonus: has set up the path from factory to customer site — freight, customs and duty; 3PL vs. in-house warehouse; staging before shipment (imaging, key injection, kitting, serial numbers); last-mile delivery and install dates; spare parts and returns
  • Lives in New York City or will relocate
  • Took one hardware product from the first specification to units in the field at a small company, and owned the whole product — not one part of it (e.g. only the enclosure, the circuit board, or the schedule)

Pay

USD 175,000 - 210,000

  • Knows enough industrial, mechanical, and electrical design to find errors in a consultant's or factory's work (does not need to produce CAD)
  • Has managed outside design consultants and/or a factory, including rejecting a design that was not correct
