Senior Software Engineer (Backend, Core)

WHOOP, a leading performance optimization company, as a Senior Software Engineer on the Core team. In this role, you will build the foundational systems that power the WHOOP App and develop features that empower members to optimize their performance and longevity. You will collaborate closely with other engineers, product management, design, data science, and performance science to shape and build polished member-facing experiences. Additionally, you will lead the design and implementation of foundational backend capabilities, drive technical planning for complex initiatives, and mentor other engineers. Responsibilities

• Concevoir et mettre en œuvre des capacités backend fondamentales qui améliorent l'évolutivité, la fiabilité et la productivité des développeurs.
• Diriger la planification technique pour des initiatives complexes en définissant la portée, en séquençant le travail, en identifiant les risques et en communiquant les compromis techniques.
• Établir et faire évoluer les normes d'ingénierie backend par le biais de discussions architecturales, de revues de code, de documentation et de leadership technique.
• Deep expertise in backend development, including Java, API design, distributed systems, and relational databases such as Postgres

Requirements

• Bonus: Experience building shared platform capabilities or contributing across mobile and backend
• Strong engineering judgment with experience balancing technical quality, business priorities, and long-term maintainability
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills with technical and non-technical partners
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives, influence engineering direction, and mentor other engineers
• Experience writing well-tested, maintainable software and establishing engineering best practices through technical leadership
• Experience designing scalable, reliable, and observable systems using cloud-native and event-driven architectures such as Kafka or SQS

• Enthusiasm in leveraging AI tools while maintaining high standards for quality and engineering excellence

Pay

USD 150,000 - 215,000
