Position Summary
Our client is an Arizona-based consulting engineering firm providing mechanical, electrical, process piping, and I&C engineering services for complex facilities throughout Arizona and neighboring states.
For 30 years, our client has supported industrial, high-tech, semiconductor, healthcare, and other technically demanding facilities. Our mechanical work includes HVAC, exhaust, plumbing, process piping, utility systems, equipment installations, and renovations within existing operating facilities.
Our client is looking for an Experienced Electrical Designer / Engineer who can contribute to projects with limited day-to-day direction and develop practical, constructable designs for complex facilities. This is not a desk-only design position. Our projects frequently involve complex existing facilities where field investigation is required.
Our designers are expected to understand existing systems, verify field conditions and constraints, and develop solutions in coordination with client facility teams and on-site contractors.
Working primarily with a Project Manager, you'll support electrical projects from initial field investigation through design and construction. Responsibilities may include: Perform field investigations to verify existing equipment, utilities, system configurations, connection points, routing constraints, available space, and other conditions a0ecting the design.
Review existing documentation, identify missing or questionable information, and determine what requires field verification. Develop conceptual and detailed designs for electrical systems, equipment installations, and facility modifications. Client out and size power distribution, and associated components within your areas of expertise.
Develop clear construction documents that account for constructability, accessibility, maintenance, installation requirements, and existing facility constraints. Review equipment and vendor information and develop calculations, sketches, and redlines as required to support the design. Coordinate with CAD/Revit designers, other engineering disciplines, clients, facility personnel, contractors, and vendors.
Participate in site walks, client meetings, design reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination. Support projects through construction, including RFIs, submittals, field conditions, and design revisions. Manage multiple assignments, maintain project schedules, communicate issues, and take ownership of assigned work through completion.
Required Qualifications 10-year Electrical Designer/Engineer with proven semiconductor, cleanroom, and power-distribution experience. Strong design experience in the following: Power distribution, Short Circuit and Coordination Studies.
Experience with complex or technically demanding facilities such as healthcare/hospitals, industrial/manufacturing, laboratories, high-tech/semiconductor, central plants, or similar environments. Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, equipment information, and system diagrams. Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and industry design practices.
Ability and willingness to perform hands-on field investigation and develop practical designs around verified field conditions. Understanding of constructability and how electrical systems are installed, accessed, operated, and maintained. Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, take ownership of assigned work, and communicate e0ectively with project teams, clients, contractors, and facility personnel.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with Revit and/or AutoCAD, or experience working e0ectively with CAD/Revit production teams. Experience with semiconductor/high-tech manufacturing, healthcare/hospitals, industrial/manufacturing facilities, or renovations within occupied or operating facilities. Experience coordinating electrical designs across multiple engineering disciplines. Electrical contracting, design-build, construction, or field-coordination experience is a plus when combined with strong design experience.
