Staff Backend Engineer

Join our team as a Staff Backend Engineer, where you will architect and build the services behind new products. This is a hands-on role that requires strong API design skills, deep experience in architecting multi-tenant SaaS and distributed systems, and expertise in PostgreSQL. Architect and build the services behind new products, owning back-end architecture for multi-tenant SaaS products from pilot to production scale.

Responsibilities

• Design PostgreSQL schemas, query patterns, and tenancy isolation models built for performance and security, and build well-structured APIs.
• Raise the engineering bar through design reviews, mentoring, and hiring, and take new product ideas from concept to pilot to product.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Strong API design skills, with hands-on experience or clear depth building tool surfaces for agents (MCP or similar)
• Deep experience architecting multi-tenant SaaS and distributed systems at scale
• Expert in Java and proficient in Python or TypeScript, with a record of making and defending language and framework choices
• Architected a system that is still running in production at scale

8+ years of back-end software engineering experience

• Expert PostgreSQL knowledge, including schema design, performance tuning, and tenancy isolation
• AI-Native Product Engineering: Proven ability to use AI coding tools and agents to rapidly build, evaluate, and ship end-to-end products. Candidates will complete a hands-on, AI-assisted product-building interview to demonstrate their ability to direct AI tools, validate generated code, and make sound architectural trade-offs across inference infrastructure and user-facing application delivery
• A track record of turning an idea into a pilot and then a product, and the judgment to know when to kill one
