Senior Electrical Engineer

Standard Bots

Join our team as a Senior Electrical Engineer, where you will be responsible for the design and validation of critical robot subsystems, including motor controllers, power distribution, compute, camera, battery management, and sensing boards. You will work hands-on in the lab, partner with Mechanical, Software, and Functional Safety engineers, and mentor associate and mid-level engineers. This position offers a fully equipped electronics lab, production robots, and a manufacturing floor steps from your desk.

Concevoir et valider des circuits imprimés pour des sous-systèmes robotiques critiques, de la conception au lancement en production.

Diriger les décisions clés en matière d'architecture et de composants, et conseiller la direction technique sur la stratégie.

About Standard Bots

We don't require a background in robotics — but we do require deep, hands-on electronics experience

We have no requirement for a background in robotics, but find most success with engineers excited by the domain and looking to apply deep electronics expertise — from motor drives, power electronics, embedded compute, automotive, or aerospace — to robots they can watch move

Impact Driven: You relentlessly seek user impact and value execution over technical idealism; a reliable, manufacturable board that ships beats an elegant one that never leaves the lab

EE Depth: You have mastery of power electronics (motor drivers and inverter stages, switch-mode supplies, power sequencing and protection), digital electronics (MCUs, FPGAs, Ethernet, USB, SPI/I2C/UART, signal-integrity fundamentals), and analog electronics (op-amps, filters, ADC/DAC signal chains, precision sensing)

Growth + Optimism: You are excited by new domains and challenges, and eager to pick up new context to accelerate your impact

High-speed design (PCIe Gen1–5, USB3/4, MIPI, GMSL, 10G Ethernet) with high-current power delivery for compute modules, and a working understanding of signal and power integrity (impedance control, crosstalk, PDN) and how to mitigate issues

Responsibilities

  • Effectuer des travaux pratiques approfondis, y compris la capture de schémas, la conception de PCB, la mise en service des cartes, les plans de test.
  • Clarity of Communication: You excel in written and verbal communication — clear design documentation, crisp trade studies, and design reviews that make your peers better
  • Proactive Simplicity: You prioritize simplicity, reliability, and velocity, and proactively identify opportunities to improve proposed designs or incumbent hardware
  • Tool Fluency: You're proficient in Altium Designer (or similar EDA tools) for schematic capture and multi-layer layout, including constraint-driven routing for high-speed and high-current designs
  • Camera electronics and image sensor integration (MIPI, GMSL, sensor power and clocking)

Requirements

  • Excelling in Ambitious Environments: You excel in dynamic and ambitious environments, working with a diverse group of individuals and backgrounds
  • Debugging Mastery: You know how to attack a hardware problem with a scope, logic/protocol analyzer, and bench instruments, document what you find, and converge on a fix quickly
  • Our ideal candidate will be open to spending roughly 60% of their time on design (architecture, schematics, layout) and 40% on lab, integration, and manufacturing support (bring-up, debug, vendor and production issues), with flexibility to sway more toward one or the other depending on current projects and team needs
  • We're looking for engineers who are self-driven, optimistic, creative, and resourceful
  • Experience: You have a bachelor's or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and 5+ years designing, building, and testing PCBAs, including designs you've taken through production release
  • Motor electromagnetic design and motor control (FOC, current sensing, encoder interfaces), or control systems for robotic manipulation or locomotion
  • Dense or space-constrained boards (HDI, flex, rigid-flex) and their fabrication trade-offs

Preferred

  • Embedded programming of DSPs, MCUs, and FPGAs; LTspice and Python for simulation, analysis, and test automation
  • Real-time industrial fieldbuses (EtherCAT, CAN/CANopen, EtherNet/IP) and safety-rated electronics to ISO 13849 or IEC 61508 (redundant architectures, STO, safety fieldbus)
  • EMC/EMI design and regulatory compliance testing (CE/UL, IEC 61000 series), including pre-compliance debugging
  • Taking products from prototype through NPI to volume manufacturing — DFM/DFT, test fixtures, yield improvement
