Staff Back End Engineer (Platform)

Altruist, a fast-growing fintech company, as a Staff Back End Engineer. In this role, you will develop and scale robust backend systems, create tooling for all product teams, and collaborate with engineering leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teams. You will design, build, and scale RESTful backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Postgres, and implement architectures for distributed and resilient systems in AWS and Kubernetes. Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale RESTful backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Postgres.
• Implement architectures to create highly distributed and resilient systems in our AWS and Kubernetes based environment.

Requirements

Understand the importance of performant and reliable systems

• Superb communication - Intentional dialogue is a superpower. You listen as well as you share your perspective with others
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools: Docker, Kubernetes and Helm
• Assurance - Your confidence is brilliant, yet ego-less. You possess a strong knowledge base, the ability to discover the unknown, and are open to differing perspectives
• Expertise in microservices architecture and distributed systems
• Strong knowledge of SQL (Postgres, MySQL)
• Proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs
• Experience - 3+ years of experience building scalable backend services at a B2B financial services, fintech, or SaaS organization

Preferred

• Education - Ideally looking for a B.A. / B.S. degree in relevant fields such as Computer Science or Software Engineering but experience and understanding are just as important
• Expertise with AI (Claude) best practices

Experience with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS

• Practiced Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, pipelines in Gitlab a plus
• Familiarity with tooling such as Debezium, Temporal, and Open Telemetry
• Knowledge of brokerage platforms and financial services industry
