Embedded Software Engineer

Join Skydio, a leading autonomous drone company, as an Embedded Software Engineer. In this role, you will architect, build, and lead the development of embedded firmware that serves as the brain of our drones and accessory products. You will provide technical direction, design and implement embedded software, integrate and validate key subsystems, debug new hardware, and write interfaces and drivers for sensors and devices. A strong background in modern C++, Python development, and embedded systems is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction and architecture for complex systems, including design and implementation of embedded software.
• Characterize, integrate, and validate key subsystems, and bring up and debug new hardware.

Requirements

• Knowledge of debugging systems at ARM assembly code level
• Obtaining FAA Part 107 certification within the first 60 days of employment is strongly encouraged for all Skydio employees and required for certain positions
• Ability to write modern C++ in a real-time embedded environment
• Python development experience
• SOC development (Qualcomm devices a plus), embedded microcontrollers, camera drivers
• Fundamental knowledge of low-level firmware
• Embedded linux userspace and kernel development
• Ability to write clean code with appropriate abstraction boundaries
• Hands-on hardware bring-up, system debugging and code optimization
• Practical experience writing firmware/embedded code for a physical device
