Staff Android Engineer (Android Platform)

Join Reddit as a Staff Android Engineer on the Android Platform team. You will set technical direction, lead cross-team initiatives, and focus on client health, developer experiences, and app architecture. You will turn ambiguous platform problems into a multi-quarter roadmap, align engineering partners, and stay hands-on from design to implementation. You will also drive developer experience strategy, architect Android client health and observability foundations, champion AI supercharged workflows, and provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior engineers.

Set technical direction and lead cross-team initiatives for a large, multi-team Android codebase, focusing on Client Health, Developer Experiences, and App Architecture.

Responsibilities

• Turn ambiguous platform problems into a multi-quarter roadmap, align engineering partners, and stay hands-on from design and implementation through rollout and adoption.
• Drive Developer Experience strategy to accelerate build and test cycles and improve release safety across teams, and architect Android Client Health and Observability foundations.
• Deep expertise in Kotlin, Android lifecycle and concurrency, and modern Android technologies such as Jetpack Compose and Kotlin coroutines, with sound judgment about architectural tradeoffs and migration strategies
• Strong background in Android platform/infrastructure work: shared libraries or frameworks, experiments/logging, navigation, startup/session orchestration, or core networking/caching
• 5+ years software development experience with 3+ years building Android applications, with a track record of leading complex Android initiatives from problem definition through delivery and sustained adoption
• Experience setting technical direction and delivering shared platform capabilities in a large Android codebase used by multiple teams and millions of daily active users

Requirements

• Practical experience applying AI to engineering workflows (code generation, refactoring, static analysis, or CI checks) with clear, measurable benefit
• Strong systems thinking and hands-on problem solving, with evidence of measurable improvements to app reliability, performance, or developer productivity
• Ability to influence without formal authority, build consensus across engineering, product, design, and data partners, and communicate technical strategy and tradeoffs clearly
