Summary Join Trane Technologies as a Modeling and Simulation Engineer and be at the forefront of innovation in HVAC technology. In this role, you will support HVAC product development through engineering analysis, modeling, and the maintenance and development of engineering software tools. You will work with experienced engineers to analyze laboratory data, validate calculations, and improve tools.
HVAC fundamentals and engineering aptitude carry greater weight than software development experience; guidance and on-the-job learning will support your growth. What You Will Do Apply thermal-sciences and refrigeration-cycle fundamentals to evaluate HVAC component and system performance.
Support steady-state and transient model development and validation; compare predictions with test results and investigate differences. Analyze laboratory data, calculate performance metrics, and check units, data quality, and physical consistency. Maintain engineering software through assigned bug fixes, calculation updates, and small feature improvements, with technical guidance and code review.
Help troubleshoot calculation and application issues; test changes against reference calculations and representative datasets. Collaborate with laboratory, product, and software engineers; assist with user support, documentation, version control, and releases.
What You Will Bring: Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field, or a bachelor's degree in one of these fields with at least three years of relevant experience in HVAC engineering, thermal systems, modeling, or engineering analysis. Solid foundation in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics, with a basic understanding of HVAC or refrigeration systems.
Ability to interpret engineering data and perform accurate calculations, demonstrated through academic projects, laboratory work, internships, or employment.
Deep familiarity with experimental testing procedures, instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow), and data acquisition (DAQ) systems Basic programming skills in Python, MATLAB, C#, C/C++, or a similar language; coursework and project experience are acceptable. Analytical problem-solving, clear communication, teamwork, and a willingness to learn engineering software maintenance and development.
Preferred Qualifications Exposure to HVAC testing, model validation, or tools such as Dymola, MATLAB/Simulink, or GT-Suite. Some hands-on experience with C#/Visual Studio or Oracle SQL/PL/SQL. Familiarity with WPF, WCF, Excel VBA, or Git is helpful but not required.
