The role combines extensive domain expertise and technical capabilities to influence the team to deliver a great customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture and design, taking solutions from discovery and requirements through detailed design, build, testing, production deployment and transition.
  • Define solution architectures, integration patterns, technology options and Key Design Decisions, supported by clear architecture documentation and diagrams.
  • Design API-first, microservices and event-driven solutions across network and OSS/BSS environments, including ingress and egress APIs, asynchronous messaging and integration contracts.
  • Work closely with TPOs, Mission Leads, Engineering Leads, delivery squads, Security teams and other stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into practical solution designs.
  • Facilitate architecture and design reviews, communicate architectural decisions and trade-offs, and resolve technical dependencies across upstream and downstream systems and delivery teams.
  • Review functional and non-functional requirements, ensuring scalability, reliability, resilience, observability, security, data protection and operational supportability are built into solution designs.
  • Lead security endorsement and architecture governance activities, working with security architects and risk teams to address authentication, authorisation, encryption, compliance and data protection requirements.
  • Support engineering teams throughout implementation by reviewing technical designs, interfaces and stories, clarifying architectural intent and ensuring delivery remains aligned with the agreed architecture.
  • Manage architectural risks, dependencies and technical constraints throughout delivery, including coordinating between engineering, security, delivery and stakeholder groups.
  • Support production readiness and transition planning, using phased implementation approaches where required to enable safe and effective production delivery.
  • Lead architecture for legacy transformation, simplification, modernisation and cloud migration, identifying opportunities to move towards sustainable future-state architectures.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and alternative design approaches, recommending solutions aligned with strategic architecture direction and long-term platform objectives.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in data and service modelling, API design, integration design and ETL, including defining interfaces and integration contracts between platforms.
  • Proven experience designing microservices, event-driven architectures, asynchronous messaging and distributed systems.
  • Experience in legacy transformation and cloud migration, with AWS experience highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of security architecture and encryption standards, including authentication, authorisation, compliance and data protection considerations.
  • Strong understanding of non-functional requirements, particularly reliability, resilience, scalability, observability and operational supportability.
  • Experience managing architectural dependencies and assessing solution impacts across upstream and downstream systems.
  • Ability to translate complex business and technical requirements into clear, pragmatic and implementable solution architectures.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to explain architectural decisions, risks and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working collaboratively with engineering, architecture, security, risk, product and delivery teams throughout the solution lifecycle.
  • Experience supporting engineering teams through implementation, production readiness and transition to production.
  • Experience evaluating technology options and identifying opportunities for modernisation, simplification and future-state architecture.
  • Experience delivering solutions across Agile/Scrum and Waterfall environments.
