Skills

Required

  • CI/CD
  • Python
  • quantum computing
  • infrastructure as code
  • Kubernetes
  • GitHub Actions
  • Linux
  • shell
  • AI coding tools
  • Linux infrastructure in production
  • cloud
  • Terraform

Join IonQ, a leader in quantum computing, as a Staff Platform Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for the platform that our engineering and science teams use to build, test, and deliver quantum systems to customers. You will work closely with physicists, lab technicians, firmware and software engineers, IT, product management, and production SRE. Your work will directly contribute to the delivery of quantum systems to our customers.

About IonQ

  • Our product code is Rust and Python: your job will be to make it build and test faster rather than write it
  • Our platform spans our on-site quantum systems, and many changes reach live quantum systems
  • Every change goes through review and automated validation before it is applied, so we value people who plan for rollback, test against the real system and write down what they learn

Responsibilities

Requirements

You will write mostly Python, shell and OpenTofu

  • We're looking for someone who can diagnose problems across the whole stack, from a storage fault to a failing pipeline to a development environment that will not start, who treats observability and security as part of the job rather than an afterthought, and who can lead a piece of work from design to rollout within a fast-moving, highly technical team
  • Experience with AI coding tools is helpful, as is an interest in quantum computing though prior experience is not required
  • To be successful, you will need hands-on experience running Linux infrastructure in production, ideally both on-premises and in the cloud, with infrastructure as code, Kubernetes and CI/CD
  • Building and speeding up CI/CD pipelines, ideally in GitHub Actions
  • Infrastructure as code with Terraform or OpenTofu

Running containerised workloads on Kubernetes in production

  • 5+ years in a Platform, DevOps or Site Reliability role, running Linux systems in production
  • Observability and security for production systems: monitoring, alerting, secrets and access control
