Backend Software Engineer

Join Mastercard as a Backend Software Engineer in our Vancouver office. You will contribute to the Decision Management program, which enables intelligent, decision-based products through streaming analytics. Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and maintaining application functionality primarily using Java, as well as collaborating with senior engineers and other team members. You will also provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, participate in Scrum ceremonies, and communicate development progress to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Experience with unit-testing and mocking frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, or EasyMock
• Good understanding of object-oriented design, software design principles, and development best practices
• Strong software development and programming skills with solid knowledge of Java
• Experience developing and supporting high-performance applications

Strong knowledge of Spring and related Java frameworks

• Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and creative problem-solving skills
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments and delivering against sprint and backlog commitments
• Knowledge of agentic AI concepts and/or experience building custom AI agents, tools, or skills
• Experience with testing frameworks such as REST Assured and Selenium WebDriver
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes

Experience with IBM ILOG/ODM and Pivotal GemFire

• Experience with distributed, highly available, or real-time processing systems
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and technical/business stakeholders

Preferred

• Experience with Angular
• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field preferred
