Staff Software Engineer

We are looking for a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer who is passionate about building scalable, high-quality software and mentoring engineering teams. This role requires a strong hands-on technologist with deep expertise in Ruby on Rails, experience designing distributed systems, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-growing, high-scale environment.

Responsibilities

Coach and mentor

• engineers, helping develop some of the best technical talent in the industry.
• Design, develop, test, release, and maintain core components of PAR/Punchh products

Build

• high-quality, scalable, and reliable software that is widely adopted by customers.
• Architect and scale features to handle 2x–4x annual growth, managing systems with millions of records and terabytes of data.
• Play a key role in technical design and architectural decisions, building toward an efficient microservices-based distributed architecture
• Drive best practices around code quality, performance, security, and maintainability
• Take ownership of deliverables and obsess over engineering excellence and craftsmanship

Requirements

• 8+ years
• of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Ruby on Rails (mandatory)
• Excellent design and coding skills in:
• o
• Ruby on Rails (must-have)

• Experience with

• o Data Structures & Algorithms o Operating Systems

Experience working with

• large-scale data systems, including both relational and NoSQL databases
• Proven ability to solve complex technical problems with a hands-on mindset.

• and platform migration to modern architectures.
• Strong knowledge of
• o Cost optimization
• o HTTP lifecycle
• o REST APIs (hands-on)
• o Caching strategies
• o Messaging technologies
• o API security
• Experience building and scaling large, performant enterprise applications
• Strong
• communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

Preferred

• Java, C#, or other backend languages is a plus.
