SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
As a Fiber Supervisor at SpaceX’s Starbase data center, you’ll lead the fiber optic installation and maintenance teams that keep critical network infrastructure online. Working onsite with project management and superintendents, you’ll plan work, direct technicians, and own quality, safety, and schedule on datacenter fiber projects. Expect to stay hands-on, coach the crew, and make sure systems run reliably in support of SpaceX's mission of accelerating human scientific discovery through AI.
Responsibilities
- Supervise fiber technicians through all phases of datacenter installation projects, in coordination with the Project Manager and Superintendent
- Assign daily work, set priorities, and track progress so installations, splices, and repairs finish on schedule and to standard
- Ensure a safe and productive work environment, including job-site briefings, PPE compliance, and elevation and confined-space practices
- Develop inspection points and sensor checks so faulty fiber does not degrade system performance
- Direct troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and installation of fiber optic systems, and verify work before closeout
- Review and approve replacement of faulty or aging fiber optic cables
- Organize and oversee scheduled maintenance routines
- Oversee fiber splicing and resolution of problem areas; confirm test results and signal levels
Track signal strength across devices and escalate anomalies
- Maintain system records, as-builts, and design markups; report status to project leadership
- Coach technicians on methods, quality, and documentation, and model the hands-on standard expected on site
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency certificate

- Technical knowledge of communication networks
- Comfortable working at elevated heights (up to 50 feet) with appropriate safety gear
Preferred
- Certification in fiber optics and/or cable installation
- Extensive experience in fiber splicing
- Knowledgeable of computers and associated electronic systems
- Knowledgeable of different fiber types
- Experience installing, certifying, and troubleshooting fiber in hyperscale data center environments
Experience installing structured cabling
- Highly proficient using a light meter, OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), OPMs (optical power meter), fiber certifier, loopback, and optical probes
- Able to understand different types of switches and port identifications
- Able to properly clean fiber and validate cleanliness
