Software Engineering Manager (Device Experience)

Join WHOOP, a leading performance optimization company, as a Software Engineering Manager. In this role, you will build and lead a new Device Experience Software team, responsible for member-facing screens and supporting services used to manage the WHOOP device experience in the app. You will combine technical leadership with people management, establish the team charter, hire and develop engineers, guide architecture, and create a dependable delivery cadence. You will work closely with various teams to deliver coherent experiences across the hardware and software boundary.

• Establish the team charter, hire and develop engineers, guide architecture across the app and backend, and create a dependable delivery cadence.
• Own the end-to-end software experience for managing a WHOOP device in the app, including the member-facing screens, backend services, APIs, and production health that support it.
• Foster a culture of high standards, direct feedback, accountability, psychological safety, and continuous learning.

• A strong technical foundation in consumer application development and backend systems, with experience shipping mobile products and operating services and APIs in production
• Strong communication and product judgment, including the ability to explain technical decisions clearly and simplify complex hardware or system behavior for members
• Software development experience followed by an engineering management or team lead role, with responsibility for hiring, mentorship, feedback, performance management, and career development
• Experience aligning cross-functional partners on scope, priorities, dependencies, release plans, and measurable outcomes
• Interest in wearable technology and enthusiasm for working in a fast-moving product environment
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical planning and iterative delivery in ambiguous environments while maintaining quality and reliability

• Developing software for connected devices, wearables, Bluetooth products, consumer electronics, or other systems that span hardware and software
• Experience building a new team, product area, or engineering charter from the ground up
• Has led a full-stack product team that owns application interfaces, backend services, and operational outcomes together
• Comfort designing device setup, pairing, connectivity, firmware update, settings, diagnostics, or support workflows
• Ability to work closely with firmware, embedded software, hardware, product design, quality, analytics, or customer support teams
