Senior Engineering Manager (Payments Platform)

Coinbase as a Senior Engineering Manager for the Payment Platform. In this role, you will lead the engineering organization responsible for orchestrating the payment flow and connecting Coinbase to the global financial system. You will build and scale multiple engineering teams, set the technical vision for Payment Platform integration and settlement systems, and partner with various departments to drive the multi-quarter roadmap for money movement in and out of Coinbase. You will also own engineering quality and operational excellence across the Payment Platform and drive talent strategy for the engineering organization.

Responsibilities

• Experience setting strategy and delivering complex work through multiple teams in regulated environments, partnering closely with Risk, Compliance, Finance, and Operations to balance speed, safety, and regulatory requirements
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality
• Strong technical judgment with demonstrated ability to guide architecture, reliability, and engineering quality for critical financial services, including hands-on operational leadership through incidents and service health management

Requirements

• Proven track record delivering and operating distributed payment systems, financial infrastructure, or high-volume transactional platforms at scale, with deep understanding of rails such as ACH, cards, SEPA, or wire transfers
• 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years of engineering management experience, including 2+ years managing managers and scaling multi-team engineering organizations
