Senior Language Programmer

Join Epic Games as a Senior Language Programmer on the Verse team. You'll be responsible for extending and maintaining the Verse compiler toolchain, optimizing performance, and ensuring an exceptional user experience. Strong experience in compiler or toolchain development and expert knowledge of C++17 or later is required. Experience with Unreal Engine integration is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Extend, evolve, and maintain the Verse compiler toolchain, transactional memory runtime and VM, add new platform support, implement new language features and integrate with Unreal Engine's content, build, and cooking pipelines.
• Optimize performance, memory usage, and iteration times across the Verse toolchain, runtime and UE/Verse boundary.
• Work closely with language consumers to ensure an exceptional user experience, establish test workflows to validate improvements and prevent regressions.

Requirements

• Strong ability to reason about large, interconnected systems
• Experience in compiler or toolchain development (e.g., compiler internals, VM design, Clang/LLVM, or linker/platform ABI specifics)

Expert knowledge of C++17 or later

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work autonomously and deliver practical solutions
• Solid grounding in software engineering principles, including API design
• Experience developing and optimizing large codebases, with the ability to make tradeoffs between usability, performance, and power

Preferred

• Experience with Unreal Engine integration is a plus
