Software Engineer (C++/Rust)

Join Databento, a groundbreaking platform that combines performance and reliability with a simplified developer experience. As a midlevel or senior software engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance server applications in C/C++ and Rust. You will work with nearly 20 PB of data and thousands of bare metal CPU cores, optimizing existing code for high throughput and low latency. You will also collaborate with the systems team to implement best practices for build, deployment, and CI/CD, and ensure smooth feature rollouts and updates.

Design, develop, and maintain high-performance server applications in C/C++ and Rust, including writing message parsers and feed handlers for direct market data feeds.

Responsibilities

• Optimize existing codebase for high throughput and low latency, implementing tools and libraries for petabyte-scale data processing and analysis.
• Collaborate with the systems team to implement best practices for build, deployment, CI/CD, and ensure smooth feature rollouts and updates.

Requirements

• An interest in low-level optimization and performance engineering
• Comfortable with lldb/gdb
• Knowledge of systems programming, algorithms, data structures, multithreading, networked I/O, serialization, CPU architecture, kernel, and compilers
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ or Rust

Experience working with multiprocess environments

• 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience, preferably at a trading firm, tech company, or high-growth startup
• Good communication skills and work ethic for a remote workplace
• An interest in financial data or algorithmic trading
