Materials Technician - Temporary (26062)

Responsibilities

• Collect samples and perform laboratory and field testing of various construction materials, such as concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, etc., to determine material properties and quality.
• Compaction testing of soil, aggregates, and asphalt concrete; Testing of fresh concrete/grout/mortar and casting of laboratory specimens; Conduct inspections and assessments of construction sites, document findings and provide detailed reports on test results, including analysis and recommendations.
• Prepare detailed and accurate field reports for use by project managers and engineers.
• Maintain effective communication with project teams, providing regular updates on field activities and findings.
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• Maintain and calibrate testing equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
• Collaborate with the project team to troubleshoot and resolve any materials-related issues.
• Identify and mitigate potential hazards in the field, promoting a safe working environment.

Preferred

• Knowledge of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards.
• CCIL Certifications in testing of asphalt, concrete, aggregates, and soils.

Main Duties

Ability and willingness to work under varied weather conditions. Capability to walk and engage in fieldwork for extended periods across occasionally challenging terrain, as well as the ability to transport equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field. Previous experience in materials testing and inspection is preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
